Chicago Has It All

Chicago, Illinois, is a big city on an even bigger lake – Lake Michigan, one of the Great Lakes in the United States.  Especially in the summer, Chicago offers activities to take you from city to country, all within a day.  But spend more time than that there, because Chicago is a city that needs to be experienced.  One of the best ways to truly enjoy your stay there is to rent a holiday apartment for your stay.

Start with a walk along the waterfront. Yes, it looks like the ocean, but it’s really one of the largest lakes in the world.  If the weather is bad or you don’t have much time, consider one of the many shoreline or waterfront tours that are available.  Several of them even detour into some of the residential neighbourhoods, giving you a feel for the diversity of this city.  Chicago also offers Segway Tours, a unique, fun and non-polluting way to easily see the city.

If you’re a sports fan, Wrigley Field is one of the oldest baseball parks in existence.  A visit and tour is great – a ticket to watch the Cubbies play is fantastic.  The Lincoln Park Zoo is one of the very last free zoos left in the country, and the Children’s Museum is a hands-on fun place for kids of all ages.  Dig for dinosaur bones and manipulate exhibits here for all kinds of fun.

One place you shouldn’t miss is Navy Pier, which is no longer dedicated solely to the military.  Between late May and early September, a free firework show lights up the night sky every Wednesday and Saturday.  Dine at one of the many fine restaurants, catch a free concert while you’re eating, and finish the night off with the fireworks display.  Only Chicago offers all this!

Top off your visit with a visit to the Second City Comedy Club, the place where John Belushi, Dan Akroyd, Tina Fey and Mike Myers, among many others, got their start in comedy and improvisation.
