The sunny Cote D’Azur of France beckons many people, but there’s really no better way to visit and explore than on a cruise ship. Ever since Brigitte Bardot starred in that little bikini, interest in this location has remained strong. So come see what all the excitement’s about!
Your cruise ship will dock right in the port, and from here you can examine the yachts of the rich and famous that may be moored very near your ship. A cornucopia of languages is spoken here, English among them, so you should have no problem being understood when you disembark. And you should disembark, because St. Tropez is a wonderful, eclectic mix of rich and pedestrian, hedonistic and hard-working.
From its start this town has been the home base of wonderful sandal-makers; be sure to find a pair or two while in town. If you can afford them, the handmade ones, especially from K. Jacques or Atelier Rondini are sought out by many who visit.
The town is mostly flat and the streets well-tended, and walking or strolling is a definite pleasure. Stop for a glass of wine, then wander through the Maison des Papillons (Butterfly House) where you can see over 4,000 species collected by the owner himself. For history buffs, the Musée de l‘Annonciade is housed in an 18th century building and features works by several French masters.
Do be aware that several beaches in St. Tropez are topless; even if you don’t dress down, others will, so ask about beach attire before visiting, especially if you’ll have young children with you.
