When people come to visit London, they’re usually aware of the expenses they’re letting themselves in for – which is usually the case in most major cities of the world. As accommodation costs can dramatically erode any holiday budget, it can pay to give a little thought to what your requirements are, rather than automatically opt for a big London hotel.
Fortunately, when it comes to accommodation choices, London has a vast range on offer and most visitors will be able to find exactly what they’re looking for without too much difficulty. There are large, five-star hotels available, of course, such as the gloriously Gothic St Pancras Hotel, but there are also a great many London bed and breakfast establishments spread across the city.
Many of these B&Bs also located very centrally, and although they offer excellent service and facilities, they’re available at a fraction of the price of the larger hotels. Moreover, as they are usually family-run and have only a handful of guests at any one time they’re able to offer a much more personalised service. Many people who stay at these guesthouses end up coming back to them year after year because they’re so comfortable and friendly.
Try to choose a guesthouse close to an underground station, as this will allow you to get around the city easily. This is a major convenience when you look at London on a tourist map and see that many of the major attractions are at opposite ends of a truly sprawling metropolis. Kings Cross hotels, for example, are within easy walking distance of the main underground and rail hub of the city, and from here you can access not only the rest of London but the rest of the UK and even France.
For cheap hotels in London, try London bed and breakfast accommodation as an excellent alternative to full-board hotels.
