Vang Vieng: a haven for backpackers
Vang Vieng is located in central southern Laos, a four-hour bus ride from the capital city of Vientiane. Vang Vieng is a true backpacker’s city, and this is evident everywhere. Businesses catering to backpackers abound, and it seems as though the city embraces backpackers. There are numerous internet cafes, plenty of guesthouses, bars, massage parlours and trekking companies.
People from all over the world began visiting Vang Vieng about five or six years ago. Set along the banks of the Nam Song River, Vang Vieng has incredible rock formations. There are many jagged limestone karsts towering above the lush and verdant jungle.
Away from the pollution of the modern world, Vang Vieng is one of those rare places where you can experience a fine mist hovering above the jungle during the early morning hours. This has been called the “golden hour,” and is a favourite backdrop for taking pictures of those precious moments spent in this picturesque oasis.
